A Catheter With Vision

Home / Patients / A Catheter With Vision

Having a urinary catheter placed can be uncomfortable. This discomfort can be due to an enlarged prostate (BPH), stricture disease, past injuries from urologic procedures, and many other reasons. When you have one of these difficulties, a special catheter can help your healthcare provider see where the catheter is going and ease placement.

The DirectVision® system equips your provider with a small camera inserted into a normal-sized catheter. This allows your provider to see where the catheter is going and minimize discomfort while passing the catheter into your bladder.  A clear view while placing the catheter means easier placement and decreased risk of injury to your urinary tract.DVS Cath - Guide - Hand Rev01

DirectVision® includes a fiber optic Guide inserted into the catheter, then connected to the Camera Handpiece.  The fiber optic Guide is removed after catheter placement.
